PDF bank statement converter.
Banks publish statements as PDF because it prints reliably, not because it is easy to work with. This converter reads the PDF the way an analyst would: it finds the transaction table, understands which column is which, joins descriptions that wrap onto the next line, ignores repeated page headers and summary boxes, and produces a clean table you can check and export.

What the converter extracts.
The transaction table, with wrapped descriptions merged and page headers and summary boxes ignored. Opening and closing balances are recognised as statement metadata and used to reconcile the rows, not injected as fake transactions.
What the converter extracts from a fictional two-page statement
| Date | Description | Debit | Credit | Balance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aug 1 | Opening balance | 8,420.00 | ||
| Aug 2 | Payroll deposit ACME Design LLC | 2,500.00 | 10,920.00 | |
| Aug 3 | Card purchase Fresh Market #214 | 84.17 | 10,835.83 | |
| Aug 5 | Check 1042 | 1,200.00 | 9,635.83 | |
| Aug 9 | Transfer to savings ****4471 | 500.00 | 9,135.83 | |
| Aug 12 | Online payment City Utilities | 143.20 | 8,992.63 | |
| Aug 18 | Mobile deposit | 320.00 | 9,312.63 | |
| Aug 31 | Monthly service fee | 12.00 | 9,300.63 | |
| Aug 31 | Closing balance | 9,300.63 |
Opening and closing balances are recognised as statement metadata, not transactions. The balance test confirms 8,420.00 + 2,820.00 − 1,939.37 = 9,300.63.
Why convert bank statements to CSV here.
- 01
Reads structure, not templates
Column names such as Withdrawals, Money out, Debit or Payments are recognised by meaning, and the table is found from its date anchors, so statements from banks we have never seen still convert.
- 02
Regional formats detected
Date order, decimal and thousands separators, currency symbols and DR/CR markers are inferred for the whole statement, then applied consistently to every row.
- 03
Reconciled before download
Opening + credits − debits must equal closing and each running balance must follow from the previous one. The result is a Conversion Confidence Score with a list of any issues.
- 04
Scanned and hybrid PDFs
Image-only pages are deskewed and read with OCR on our own servers. Rows built from low-confidence words are flagged so you know exactly which ones to check.
- 05
Password-protected files
Encrypted PDFs convert on paid plans, from Starter up. Enter the password once: it opens the file for inspection and conversion, is held encrypted only while the job runs, and is never written to logs.
- 06
Five output formats
CSV with three column profiles, an Excel workbook, JSON with validation results, OFX 2.x and QBO Web Connect, all generated from the same reviewed table.
How to convert a bank statement to CSV
Upload your statement
Drop a PDF into the converter above. Text, scanned and hybrid files are accepted on every plan, password-protected PDFs from Starter, and the upload check tells you which kind it is.
Choose a format
Pick CSV, Excel, QBO, OFX or JSON. Each format has its own options, such as the CSV column profile or the QuickBooks institution ids.
Review the result
The extracted rows are shown next to the original page. Flagged rows carry a reason; click any row to see where it came from and edit, merge or split it.
Download the file
Download the export and the Conversion Report, which records which checks passed. Exports are regenerated whenever you edit.
How the conversion works.
Eight steps, each with a clear failure mode, so a bad statement produces a clear error rather than a half-filled spreadsheet.

PDF bank statement converter: questions
Try selecting text in your PDF viewer. If you can, it has a text layer. If the cursor selects nothing, it is an image and will go through OCR. The upload check tells you which it is before you convert.
Converting an encrypted PDF needs a paid plan, from Starter up; on the free plan, remove the password from the file first. On a paid plan you enter it when asked: the password is used to open the file for inspection and conversion, held encrypted only while the job runs, then deleted, and it is never written to logs.
Yes. Date order, decimal separators, thousands separators, currency symbols and column names are all detected per statement. The engine is tested against synthetic statements from eight regions, including UK, EU, Canadian, Australian, Swiss and Indian formats.
It is a weighted combination of the reconciliation results (balance equation, running-balance chain, period) and extraction quality (amount and date parsing, structure, OCR confidence). A reconciled statement with clean extraction scores 1.0; flagged rows and failed tests lower it.
Yes. The review screen shows the extracted table next to the PDF page. Click a row to highlight its source, edit any cell, add or delete rows, and the exports are regenerated.
Originals are deleted 24 hours after processing; exports and extracted transactions 7 days after conversion; Delete now removes everything immediately. See security.
